Fighting Poverty with Passion
The past six months have flown by! It seems like yesterday that I arrived in New Orleans and started working at Project Homecoming! So much has happened since my last blog, so I will try to include it all!
At Project Homecoming we ended 2015 with a bang! Hosting our third annual gala where we presented 20 of our homeowners with handmade holiday wreaths, danced the night away listening to some great jazz, and took a slew of great pictures with Santa Clause and his helper!
The People’s Health New Orleans Jazz Market was a great venue and we can’t wait to see what our future gala’s hold!
We also launched an end of year letter writing campaign and are still participating in The Super Service Challenge! So for anyone who has not yet checked it out and voted, please do!! So far our end of year fundraising campaign has raised close to $15,00. Check us out on Commit Change and help to continue the revitalization of New Orleans.
This being my first holiday season in new Orleans I did take some time to have some fun! I spent a wonderful evening gallivanting through city park enjoying Celebration in the Oaks!
It was beautiful to see such a display of lights! They even had a Christmas tree made out of poinsettias!
Overall, enjoying the warm weather (not having to wear a winter coat!), welcoming homeowners home, making new friends, and exploring the amazing city I am blessed enough to call home, plus spending almost two weeks hanging out with my favorite, four legged, girl, have been quite lovely! I can’t wait to see what the next year brings!
