StayLocal’s New Source NOLA Initiative Encourages Businesses To Source Locally

StayLocal is kicking off Source NOLA, a summer-long initiative that encourages businesses to switch to a local service provider in some area of their business. Through Source NOLA, StayLocal aims to better connect business owners to the local resources in New Orleans and raise awareness about the ways businesses can better engage with their local economy.

“When local businesses source from each other, dollars circulate within New Orleans for a longer period of time, which creates more and better-paying jobs. This is known as the local premium,” says Mark Strella, StayLocal program manager. “Even a modest 10% shift by local businesses to local sourcing can inject millions of dollars into our regional economy.”

“As New Orleanians, we’re predisposed to working with our friends and neighbors,” says Meredith Cherney, StayLocal Communications Coordinator. “From banking, accounting, and office supplies to background checks, payroll providers and everything in between, New Orleans has so many local service provider options. Source NOLA aims to raise the profile of these businesses and help business owners take advantage of the local knowledge base.”

All summer long, StayLocal is providing a variety of resources to help businesses find local options. This includes a Networking Happy Hour event co-presented by Gambit where local business owners can meet in a laid-back format in the beautiful garden at Hotel Storyville (1261 Esplanade Ave) on Tuesday, May 19th from 5-7pm. More information at www.staylocal.org/events/networking-happy-hour-sourcenola.

Business owners can reserve sessions at www.staylocal.org/officehours.

The grand finale is the “NOLA Know-How” event, where five local business thought leaders will give short, TED-style talks around the theme of creative problem solving and hatching innovative business ideas. Also, local service providers will be present to show off the services they provide to attendees through tabling and small displays. This event will be held at Eiffel Society (2040 St Charles Ave) from 5-8pm on Thursday, July 16th.

Source NOLA is made possible by the support of LCI Workers Comp, LCIA, Eiffel Society, Gambit, and the Urban Conservancy.
