Fighting Poverty with Passion

Where to begin! This past month and a half has been the busiest of my VISTA term so far, and it has flown by. Here in Broadmoor we are in the process of gearing up for the grand opening of our new Arts & Wellness Center, which will be located in the old St. Mathias school in the neighborhood. It’s going to be an amazing facility opening in June 2015, and will include a dance and fitness studio, an early childhood resource room, counseling offices, design studios and office space for partner organizations. The Executive Director of the Broadmoor Improvement Association, Emily Wolff, appeared on WGNO recently to promote the renovation.

In an effort to raise funds to finish the construction, the Broadmoor Improvement Association hosted a community wide gala and patron party, called Metamorphosis, on March 21 from 7-11 PM at Rosa F. Keller Library and Community Center (4300 S. Broad.) The BIA and its current staff haven’t hosted a fundraiser like this in recent years, so we did a lot of the preparations from scratch. We had food, drinks, a silent auction and music by Sharon Martin. It was so wonderful seeing everyone at this beautiful event and I’m even more excited for the Arts and Wellness Center to open up in June.

A perfect evening for our outdoor party.

Special shoutout to all the AMAZING VISTA team members who came and volunteered, you all are the wind beneath my wings ❤
