Fighting Poverty with Passion

Field Report: A’s & Aces

Spring time is coming! I’m anticipating a very busy season and looking forward to it.

I can’t really say it’s been an awful “winter”—my family in St. Louis is still dealing with below-freezing temperatures and snowfall. It’s been a little colder than I would like in New Orleans, but for the most part it’s been mild the past few months. I’m still excited for spring, though. There are many festivals coming up in the next few months and I have several family members and friends coming to visit.

In addition, work responsibilities will be picking up. As February comes to a close, A’s & Aces is busy preparing for our NORDC Summer Camp programming. We will soon have our application open for parents to complete. We have 3 summer camp locations throughout the city, and we still have much to do before camp starts on June 1st. I’m in the process of recruiting high school volunteers as well as paid staff positions.  I will soon be reviewing applications for participants, volunteers and staff members. Our summer camps are the most popular of our programs, and many of our after-school and tournament team players first started out in our summer camps. The camps are great tools for us to recruit new players into our programs.

Till next time.
