Fighting Poverty with Passion
Hello VISTA Blog reader,
It is that time again that I give you all a look into my window as a VISTA at ARISE Academy. Since the last time we spoke quite a bit has happened. While I do not wish to bore you with stories of all the things happening at ARISE, I’ll just highlight the two main events of October: Special visitors and Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat.
On Thursday, October 13 40 Foreign Ambassadors, and their spouses, paid a visit as a part of the Projects with Purpose Experience America event that focused on discussing the issue on education of in New Orleans. The morning began with a panel discussion on education, then lead into a few classroom breakout sessions, in which the scholars exchanged cultural information with the group of ambassadors within their class.
On Friday, October 28 the students enjoyed a Fall Festival during the school day and later that evening the scholars enjoyed dancing and treating it up at our 1st annual Trunk or Treat celebration. The fall festival highlighted the enrichment portion of the curriculum including musical presentations by each grade, art displays and crafts and a theatrical performance by the 3rd grade scholars entitled The Louisiana Purchase.
October was truly an exciting month, although at times it was a little overwhelming, in the end I/we made it through and are geeked about all that November has and will continue to bring. In the coming weeks we have our 3rd newsletter coming out, Louisiana Purchase cast going on the road to perform and Holy Angels and another venue. So keep your ears and eyes open for the great things coming.
As my words become few and I wrap up this post I want to leave you with a little food for thought as you all prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday….
