Fighting Poverty with Passion

Field Report: Evacuteer

The 2nd Annual Bye Bye Hurricane Season Celebration was a success, in mine and many others eyes. We reached our fundraising goal and I’m pretty confident fun was had by all. Some pictures of the golden people who were integral to the party’s success:

Golden People

And some less golden but still sparkling ladies who pulled it off!

Worker bees.

The most important thing I learned from this first fundraiser was how many people it takes to make an event successful. And we had amazing people at this one who did more than I think I even know! Many took initiative on their own to pull things off behind the scenes so that party attendees had an awesome time. Thanks especially to my fellow VISTAS who were there to volunteer and those who came out to support the cause.

Now that we have reached our first goal, the work truly begins. We are looking for even larger donations and I have really been exercising my Internet research skills to find foundations and corporations who might be good resources. Once we raise $50,000 it will be matched by the Arts Council of New Orleans. It so exciting to have the support of such a monumental local organization!

Stay tuned for more updates along the road to raising those dolla’ dolla’ bills.

I’ll end with this picture, which encapsulates my feelings post-party and moving forward. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts:
