Fighting Poverty with Passion

Field Report: Green Light New Orleans

“Things have been rolling along here at Green Light. I have been doing a lot with my service learning class- getting everything set up, orientating students, arrange for the execution of their service projects. I’ve been a bit surprised by how smoothly things have played out with the students so far, actually. I’ve also been trying to work with our new intern to improve some of the basic happenings around the office.

We’ve all been busy getting everything set up for our March “Month of Fundraising”. We are working with all of our scholastic partnerships as well as sponsors and previous donors to implement a series of different fundraisers throughout the month. I’ve been trying to get something together at Tulane for this fundraising shindig by working with the new Green Light Committee of Tulane’s Green Club. Hopefully that comes together and we are able to contribute to the fundraising campaign.

Other than that, I’ve been handed all grant writing responsibilities. Green Light was paying a previous employee to write grants, but we decided that my training and being in-house ought to be utilized. Turns out that we have a lot of grant proposals already in the works and that I have a lot of sifting through these pieces to do. It’s a bit overwhelming, but finishing a grant proposal sure is rewarding.” -Lindsey Roper, AmeriCorps VISTA Member
